Frequently Asked Questions
Statement Junky Inc. recognizes the unique challenges that girls face and is committed to providing programming that helps compensate for these gender inequalities. While society's expectations affect both boys and girls, studies show that girls are more disadvantaged by them. Gender-specific programming lets girls focus on their real interests, at their own pace, free from distractions and comparisons.
Imagine a community where all of our girls are safe, healthy, thriving, and ready to realize their full potential. Much has changed over the years, but growing up to be a healthy, confident, and independent female continues to be a daunting task. For hundreds of girls facing social and economic challenges, Statement Junky Inc. provides the safe space, the encouragement, and the subject matter they need in order to envision a brighter future as a change agent in her community and abroad.
Unlike other youth organizations, Statement Junky Inc. has a dual focus. We work to help girls become strong, smart, and bold so that they can tackle the challenges they face. At the same time, we work to change the world through exploration and by providing each girl with access to travel the world. Our motto is “Show her the world, She’ll change the world.
Statement Junky is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free after-school programming to black girls ages 12-19. We are headquartered in New Rochelle, NY, with satellite after-school programs throughout New York’s five boroughs.
Providing girls with the tools, resources, and mentorship that supports the economic and social development of the whole girl is our primary outlet for program implementation. Our age-specific curricula provide life-changing programs that focus on issues that girls of color face, from body image and financial literacy to college planning and conflict resolution.
